Ness Cove beach lies below the red cliffs of Ness Headland, accessed through what is believed to be an original smugglers’ tunnel by Shaldon Wildlife Zoo. The beach is mainly shingle with rock pools and gently slopes towards the sea.
Dogs are permitted all year round at Ness Cove Beach.
This is a safe swimming beach as watercraft are not permitted between the yellow marker buoys and the shoreline, apart from a marked access lane to the beach.
There are no facilities on the beach, but on the land side of the tunnel, facilities include a cafe, parking, and toilets. A cautionary note is that the tunnel route to the beach includes some steps that can get slippery.
