Start Point Lighthouse
Start Point is one of the most exposed peninsulas on the English Coast, running sharply almost a mile into the sea on the South side of Start Bay near Dartmouth. The Lighthouse, sited at the very end of the headland, has guided vessels in passage along the English Channel for over 150 years.
Lighthouse has a visitor centre.

The Venus cafe is located at Blackpool Sands and offers breakfast, lunches, dinners or coffee and cake. All food is homemade with locally sourced fresh food. Venus also has a shop that can hire out watersports equipment although only open during the summer season.

Great Mattiscombe beach is an unspoilt sandy beach with access from the cliff top coast paths. The beach has plenty of rock formations to explore. The beach has No facilities with access from the coast path.

Hallsands is a shingle beach and a popular location with divers and fisherman. You can see (not sure for how long) the remains of the old village that was washed into the sea during a storms in the early 1900’s and abandoned in 1917. Salcombe lifeboat station was established in 1857 and operates an all weather lifeboat. Station and Museum open daily, shop daily Easter to Christmas.

This is a small museum located under the Tourist Information Centre. Although small it has a great selection of models, paintings, photographs which depict the story of Salcombe’s links with ships and the sea.
