Shore Road Beach is a large sandy beach that joins with the Sandbanks beach and is part of the long stretch of sand just before the beach hits the Peninsula. The beach has fine sand and gently sloping access to the water making it great for families.
As Shore Road itself stretches along the harbour before reaching the seafront the beach can often be mistaken for being a harbour beach but this is not the case Shore Road Beach is the stretch of great sand on the seaward side.
Shore Road beach along with its close neighbours and Poole harbour is known for great windsurfing and kitesurfing. Popularity is in part as you park once and have the option of sailing from the beach or harbour side depending on wind conditions.
Facilities at Shore Road beach include a cafe, ice-cream kiosks, toilets, lifeguards in the summer, a small carpark and easy access to all the facilities at Sandbanks. When the weather is nice it can be difficult to find places to park.
Shore Road Beach is a Blue Flag Beach and has been awarded a regional Seaside Award.
Dog Friendly Beach?
From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are not allowed on Shore Road beach and must be kept on a lead on the promenade, paths and zig zags.
Water samples are taken at regular intervals during the bathing season and at the end of the season the water quality is classified as: - Excellent: the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest - Good: generally good water quality - Sufficient: meets minimum standards - Poor: You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
