Powfoot Beach does not really have sand and is a combination of salt marsh and mud. Care should be taken when walking out at a low tide, and so this is really a coastal walk rather than a beach trip.
There is a small strip of shingle beach along the coast to the east, towards Annan, or a small area of sand and shingle in front of the car park, called Powfoot Scar, to the west.
You also have the historicย Powfoot Tidal Pool, which, at lower tide levels, offers a fascinating glimpse into how old tidal pools once functioned.
