Durham Botanic Garden
Durham University’s 10-hectare Botanic Garden is set amongst beautiful mature woodlands on the southern outskirts of Durham.
Open to the public, the Botanic Garden offers a wide variety of landscapes to explore and discover. We have plant collections from around the world, including China, Japan, North America, South Africa, New Zealand and Chile, as well as a woodland garden, alpine garden and bamboo grove.
The gardens include a visitor centre with a cafe and gift shop.

Horden beach is a sand and shingle beach backed by cliffs and grass. This area of coast had a few coal mines which have since closed and the area now has spoil heaps that are being reclaimed by nature.

Blast Beach was once hidden deep below waste from Dawdon Colliery which was one of the last Durham mines to close. After the mine clean-up, you now have a spectacular stretch of coastline with empty beaches, high cliffs and wildflowers. This is a great location to head out and explore Durham’s Heritage Coast. Car parking is available at Nose’s Point.

Durham Cathedral or by its full name The Cathedral Church of Christ, Blessed Mary the Virgin and St Cuthbert of Durham is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
