Brighton Pier (1700ft/520m long) was opened in a grand ceremony on May 20th 1899. The pier is now listed as a Grade II structure and brings fun and entertainment to the hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers who visit it every year!
It was built in 1891 and opened in 1899 and was one of three in the area. It had a concert hall which housed great shows during WWII, but in 1973, a storm sent a barge into the pier and the theatre was lost.
What is great about the pier is that it has retained its old-world charm even though it has been thoroughly modernised with rides, arcades, shops, restaurants, and bars.
The pier is home to several restaurants, cafes, and food kiosks offering a range of food, from fish and chips to ice cream and candyfloss. As well as food options the pier has bars and live entertainment venues.
You don’t need to spend money just take a stroll along with great coast views back to Brighton Beach or just sit in a deckchair and soak up the sun whilst people-watching.
Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the pier.
Brighton Palace Pier features in films like Sweeney Todd, Dr Who and Carry On at Your Convenience and is as much fun in real life as it is in the films!
