Walton-on-the-Naze beach is a traditional large sandy beach with wooden groynes splitting it into sections. The beach sits on either side of the second-longest pier in Britain, with nearby Southend being the longest. As you are standing on the pier looking out to sea, the beach on the left is also known as Albion Beach whilst the beach on the right is known as Southcliff Beach.
This still has some of the charms of the original Victorian seaside town with a promenade, pier and beach huts.
Facilities include parking, a pier and amusements, a slipway, a promenade, kiosks, shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs nearby, beach huts for hire, seasonal lifeguards and RNLI Shop.
Walton-on-the-Naze Beach has been awarded a regional Seaside Award.
Dog Friendly Beach?
Walton-on-the-Naze beach, the managed left-hand side (as you look out to sea) of the pier has a dog ban between 1st May and 30th September. The right side of the pier allows dogs all year round.
Water samples are taken at regular intervals during the bathing season and at the end of the season the water quality is classified as: - Excellent: the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest - Good: generally good water quality - Sufficient: meets minimum standards - Poor: You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
