Menai Suspension Bridge
The Menai Suspension Bridge was built by Thomas Telford and the first suspension bridge of this size in the world. In January of 1826 the Royal London and Holyhead Mail Coach crossed over to Anglesey with its mail bags heading for Dublin.
The bridge spans 579 feet between the piers and 100ft above the water, allowing high mast sailing boats to pass below. It is possible to walk across the bridge and see the fascinating construction and the very fast flow of water passing below.
