Epple Bay is a lesser-known beach near Birchington-on-Sea, on the north coast of Kent. It offers a tranquil setting away from the more crowded north Kent beaches.
Epple Bay features a mix of shingles at high tide and reveals sandy stretches as the tide recedes, along with some rock pools. Like many bays on this stretch of coast, the beach is flanked by striking white chalk cliffs, providing a beautiful backdrop. The cliffs provide a sheltered beach below, and from the park above, they offer panoramic views of the Isle of Thanet and the surrounding coastline.
Epple Bay has a concrete promenade (as seen in the photo) that runs westwards along most of the north Kent coast. Although it finishes at Epple Bay at low tide, you can walk around the beach, or take the cliff path and rejoin it at Westgate Bay.
Dogs are welcome at Epple Bay Beach, off their lead, any time of the year.
Epple Bay is a secluded beach without facilities, accessible via a path from the cliff top or the promenade from beaches to the west. You must come prepared with necessities such as food, water, and sun protection. Limited parking is available on the streets above the bay, and you must be careful not to obstruct house access. There are a few local amenities in Birchington-on-Sea, including shops and cafes.
