Stone Bay is renowned for its stunning sandy stretches, framed by dramatic chalk cliffs, a combination that offers both breathtaking scenic views and ample beach space. At high tide, much of the sand is covered, but as the tide falls, wide soft sand appears, perfect for walking, relaxing, or building sandcastles.
The cliffs add character, offering dramatic visual contrast, especially in light (such as sunrise or sunset), and paths along the cliff tops provide spectacular vantage points over the bay and toward neighbouring Broadstairs Bays. Rock and reef features may be revealed at lower tides near the cliff base, providing an opportunity for rock poling and exploring nature up close.
Because Stone Bay is part of the Broadstairs coastline, it benefits from nearby town amenities without being overly crowded (though summer days do draw more visitors). The combination of ease of access and scenic charm makes it a favourite, offeringย a quieter alternative to the bustling Viking Bay, just a short walk away.
Stone Bay does have seasonal dog restrictions. From May 1 to September 30, dogs are prohibited on the beach between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The beach’s facilities include a cafe, seasonal lifeguards, chalets for hire, toilets, and disabled access via Broadstairs Harbour at Viking Bay.
If travelling by car, there are some parking spaces on Easter Espalanade above the beach, but on lovely days this fills up early.ย It’s probably better to plan to park in the Broadstairs centre and walk out from the Harbour along the promenade.
