Ainsdale Beach is a large, soft, sandy beach between Southport and Formby with a nature reserve and sand dunes. This beach is so large you can always find space.
The large size of the beach makes it ideal for dog walking, horse riding, kitesurfing, landboards, buggies and land yachts.
Dogs and horses are allowed on Ainsdale Beach except in the bathing zone, 200m on either side of the main beach entrance, during the summer (1st May to 30th September). Horse riders MUST possess current and valid personal and third-party liability insurance.
Ainsdale Beach is now recognised as one of the best beaches in the UK for kite activities, with zones set aside for kite buggy, landboard use and kite surfing in the sea. A permit is required before you use a power kite in the kite zone. It is an excellent beach to learn and practice kite surfing as it is a large and safe beach, free from obstructions.
The Ainsdale Discovery Centre is adjacent to the beach and Ainsdale & Birkdale Sandhills Local Nature Reserve. The centre provides local information, a classroom facility, a venue for events and cycle hire.
Facilities include toilets, cafes, a picnic area, car parking off Shore Road, and nearby Ainsdale Village offers shopping and restaurants.
