Focus on: Hive Beach Café in Dorset

We’re busy putting together a compilation of all the best coastal spots to eat in England and here is our first entry from Caroline Richards of Hive Beach Café in Dorset. We’re matching them up with good walks as well so that you can have a short or long walk to work up an appetite or just to relax after enjoying a wonderful meal or snack as part of your day out!

What’s on the menu?

The Hive Beach Café provides a cosmopolitan style menu from a crab sandwich to a Seafood Platter, line caught sea bass. We also have a wide selection of foods for those who are not so keen on seafood, from a simple ham sandwich with chips on the side to vegetarian options with mouth watering delicacies such as goat’s cheese and red onion. The following is provided as a guide only. Our menus change daily so do check the chalk boards and clipboards on arrival.

What is the mood/ambience?

Al Fresco dining by the beach. Outside the main café area you will find our famed awnings and an extensive patio area making it accessible for wheelchair / pushchairs and just to make life a bit easier there’s around 140 chairs to choose from, inside and out.

Inside you will find our cake counter filled with a selection of homemade cakes and locally made biscuits. Behind the counter on the walls the chalk menu tells you what’s on offer. It’s always best to be a bit early to get the best pick of the fish, ask at the counter if you have any special requirements, we will be pleased to help.

The café extends its warm welcome to everyone; families, children and your dogs are welcome to come and join in the fun. We cater for the whole family so if you and your little ones have forgotten their bucket and spade or want a try at body boarding our cheerful staff will help you out, don’t forget the sunscreen!

The ice cream parlour is mainly open in the summer months serving delicious Lovington’s ice cream. The Hive even has one of Lovington’s flavours named after it Hive Honeycomb.

Can visitors see the ocean?

The Café is located on the Chesil Bank, at Hive Beach near Bridport in Dorset, offering some of the best views of Lyme bay.

How would you rate your prices?
