Explore Edinburgh Beaches and Coastline

Edinburgh is a coastal city in Scotland and extremely popular for a city break as it has so much to offer the tourist.

Cobbled streets welcome you to this culturally rich city. Here, you can drink in the architecture and art, thrill at the theatre and explore the cities secret places after some fine dining in top class restaurants. This is the home of Scottish rugby and the waters of the Leith.

Edinburgh Castles dominates the Royal Mile of this old town - now city - facing out to the place where public hangings took place when it was known as 'Auld Reekie'. Renown for its University and as Europe's most influential financial capital outside London, the city has been visited by Kings and dubbed the 'Athens of the North' by some.

Travellers enjoy the combination of modern and old in the architecture. The baroque Palace of Holyroodhouse sits alongside the modern Parliament, the Old Town alongside the New. In 1995 both were listed as a World Heritage site to ensure that the architecture of the city is preserved for future generations. Buildings are not all this city is about. The Royal Mile is a huge tourist attraction along with the lanes, kirks, towers, Georgian terraces and hideaways.

The city centre is busy and exciting with wonderful places to shop, historic and cultural attractions, great views, museums, theatre, events like the Book Festival in August, markets, bars, clubs, cafes, restaurants, five star hotels and other, high quality accommodation.

In total contrast to the bustle is the coast. The beaches are practically empty and unspoilt with nature reserves, small fishing villages and resorts hugging the shore. The coastal scenery is beautiful making Edinburgh a very varied and sought after location.
