Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps Beach Info

At Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps Beach, the coast has steep cliffs and rock-scattered sandy beaches. Starting at Carnewas Point the beach winds around the craggy rocks for approximately 1 mile. Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps have spectacular coastal erosion that has worn back the cliff face, leaving huge outcrops of volcanic rock scattered along the length of the beach. These towering rocks are surrounded by water at high tide, but at low tide, the beach is accessible and you can walk between them.

Access to the beach is via a staircase; the descent (and the climb back up) is steep, and the steps are often wet and slippery. Swimming in the sea at any time is unsafe due to strong currents and more of a location for walkers rather than beachgoers. Dogs are allowed all year, making this a great location for coast walks dropping down into the coves.

The beach is closed during the winter, with the steps locked between November and February. The area is susceptible to cliff erosion and this can also cause closures.

Toilets (not always available), shop, information centre, parking and tearoom where the garden and picnic area allow dogs.
