Piel Castle also known as Fouldry Castle, is located on Piel Island, 1 km off the southern tip of the Furness Peninsula, protecting the deep water harbour of Barrow-in-Furness. Hardknott Roman Fort ruins is square with rounded corners, 114 metres long externally, or 105 metres internally, the rampart wall being about 1.7 metres thick with ditches adding to the total width of the rampart. Bardsea beach is situated at the seaside village of Bardsea on the Furness Peninsula, standing on the west side of Morecambe Bay.
