Barricane Beach
We have labelled this Barricane Beach but this area is actually a rocky cove with three beaches, in order from South to North you have Barricane Beach, Combesgate Beach and Grunta Beach which are separate stretches of sand and shingle between rocks. Barricane beach is a designated a site of special scientific interest, also known as “Shell Beach”, a reference which comes from the many cowries and exotic shells that come across from the Caribbean on the gulf stream.
This rocky cove is a lot quieter than the main Woolacombe beach to the south.
The area is backed by Morte Slates, a series of silvery-grey to green coloured slates with some subordinate sandstone and siltstone rocks that are over 400m years old providing lots of rock pools to explore at low tide.
Access is via steep steps.
Cafe providing some refreshments but most facilities are just a short walk away in the main Woolacombe town.
