About Botany Bay Beach
Botany Bay is one of the most iconic beaches on the Kent coast. Framed by dramatic white chalk cliffs and striking chalk stacks, it’s one of Broadstairs’ northernmost bays and a favourite for families, photographers, and nature lovers.
At low tide, you can explore rock pools, wander across an exposed chalk reef, and even fossil hunt. As the tide comes in, the ends of the beach may become cut off, so timing is essential if you’re exploring near the cliffs. When the tide goes out, you can also walk around the chalk stacks to Kingsgate Bay, but be aware that as the tide comes in, you may have to walk back along the cliff path.
The combination of dramatic geology (chalk cliffs, stacks), wide sand at low tide, plus good access and amenities makes Botany Bay appealing both for a relaxed day at the beach and for more active adventurers.
From May 1 to September 30, dogs must be off the beach during summer daytime hours, between 10 am. and 6 pm.
Facilities include toilets, seasonal kiosks (serving hot and cold food), disabled access, and lifeguards during the summer months. Car parking is limited, as it is a residential area above the beach and requires permits. We recommend parking at Palm Bay Avenue (CT9 3PP), where you can enjoy a short, cliff-top walk to Botany Bay.
