The Florida Keys of British Beaches
Poole has some of the United Kingdom’s best beaches, often referred to as the Florida Keys of British beaches.
They are well maintained and sport Blue Flag status over the more than 5 miles of golden, sandy beaches in Poole.
For dog lovers, there is the added advantage that some of them are dog-friendly too!
Here’s a list of the beaches to make it easy for you to choose the spot you need to be on when you holiday in Poole!
1. Sandbanks Beach

Sandbanks beach has won many Blue Flag awards. It lies between Branksome Chine and Flaghead Chine and is a beach of fine golden sand with many facilities, such as cafes, shops, hotels, and a perfect ‘swim zone’ for the kids with lifeguards on duty.
Volleyball posts and nets can be hired, and barbecues are allowed after 6pm.
No dogs allowed, though!
2. Shore Road Beach

Shore Road Beach has good Blue Flag facilities and is excellent for kids because it has a gradual slope, making it safe for paddling. There’s a putting green, loos, car park, windsurfing, fishing and volleyball!
No dogs allowed over the Summer. You can reach Shell Bay by ferry and explore Brownsea Island from here!
3. Canford Cliffs Chine

This is also a Blue Flag beach between Branksome Chine and Flaghead with all the facilities of the promenade and Canford Cliffs village. Again, there is a kids’ safe swimming zone with lifeguards on duty, and the loos are plentiful!
Parking is okay, and there is ample public transport. No dogs allowed over Summer, though.
4. Rockley Point

A small but stunning beach situated at Hamworthy near Poole, off the Napier Road.
This beach has received the Environmental Campaign Seaside Award for a rural beach since 2001.
It’s a small sandy beach with about 150 metres of beach, but great views of the harbour and the Purbecks! There is a small shop and facilities at Rockley Park holiday centre, which include windsurfing and sailing!
Dogs are allowed on this beach! Limited parking, so get there early – or when everyone has gone off for lunch!
And if the weather turns, there is so much to do in Poole you’ll never be caught short with the kids in terms of outings and activities.
