About Littlehampton (East) Beach
Littlehampton Beach is the main beach for Littlehampton, West Sussex, also known as East Beach or Coastguards Beach. It is a clean, safe, and large shingle beach overlooked by the coastguard tower. At mid- to low tide, the shingle gives way to a large sandy beach. The beach is vibrant and family-friendly, contrasting significantly with the more tranquil West Beach.
Littlehampton’s East Beach is a 10-minute flat walk through the riverside walkway to the town; the walkway runs beside the River Arun, past the RNLI lifeboat station and harbour.
Dogs are not allowed from the East Pier to Norfolk Road by the East Beach cafe and beach huts between the 1st of May and the 30th of September.
Activities include what you expect from a traditional family beach holiday: sea angling, sailing, windsurfing, and kite surfing. However, kitesurfing tends to be done at Littlehampton West Beach or Rustington Beach.
Littlehampton is a popular British seaside destination with plenty of history and attractions to enjoy. The South Downs are to the north, and Chichester, Arundel, and Worthing are easily accessible. This is an ideal town to stay in, whether you want to relax or explore the West Sussex surrounding area.
The seafront features The Long Bench, considered the longest bench in Britain and one of the longest in the world. The wood and stainless steel bench ‘flows’ along the promenade, curving around obstacles along the seafront. The bench measures 324 metres and can seat over 300 people.
Facilities at the beach include pay and display car parks, toilets, seasonal lifeguards, cafes, restaurants, the unusual East Beach Cafe, beach huts, deckchair hire, promenade, bowling, crazy golf, an amusement arcade, a leisure centre and plenty of large grass areas.
