It’s that time of the year when the Blue Flag beaches are announced. 2016 has seen 68 English beaches get the Blue Flag Award which is an increase of 7 from last year, whilst we still have 111, albeit with some changes, that received the Seaside Award, Keep Britain Tidy’s own seal of approval.

Cornwall claims the most awards with a total of 19 (11 Seaside Awards and 8 Blue Flags), closely followed by Torbay with 13 awards (10 Seaside Awards and 3 Blue Flags), Thanet with 10 awards (7 Blue Flag and 3 Seaside Awards), Tendring with 10 awards (3 Blue Flag and 7 Seaside Awards) and Southend on Sea with 10 awards (3 Blue Flag and 7 Seaside Awards).
